Swimming tips?

OntarioSheltie, yea I think you've got the right idea - go slow. If you push them too fast it might traumatize them and it'll take even longer to get them ok again being in water!

Michele, yay beach!! Romeo swims in the sea. Juliet is frightened of big waves. Be careful of the waves and undercurrents which can pull a dog in and out further. We usually stay close to the shore and swim along the shore rather than out further into the sea. Be careful of the crap that floats around on the water, trash, etc. Romeo freaks out sometimes if he swims through seaweed. Hee. And jellyfish, if there are any in your area. Don't let them drink the water of course.

Rinse them thoroughly after their swim! HAVE LOADS OF FUN! :biggrin2:

Thank you Michele.I don't see either one of the pups getting in far at all.I'm sure just walking at the edge of the water will be all they will do.

I do however am going prepared with training leashes, which are longer than the usual walking leash, just to give them a longer run, instead of being tethered so close.
Thanks for the tip on rinsing them well, really had not thought of that.

Yes I use a really long line (30ft one I got from cleanrun) too coz the beach doesn't allow dogs off leash (they are onleash just that their leashes are reeeally long!).

Well, no real progression in Ginny so far, but she's not getting worse either so I guess that is good.

She is really not happy when I bring her in the pool with me, though she's not freaking out like she was before, so long as Sadie is there. She just hangs off my arm and trembles. I kept her in the pool with me for longer last night but she was no better by the time we got out than she was when we got in.

She's isn't completely shutting down and looks around (usually longingly at the stairs) and keeps an eye on Sadie at all times too. She just doesn't appear to be progressing either.

I guess I just need to keep being patient with her. :rolleyes2:
