Our 10 year old blue merle (male) sheltie has been losing the hair on the last 6 inches or so on his tail for several weeks. His tail used to be voluminous right to the tip, but it is now a thin wispy affair. He doesn't bite it, its not been got at by other animals. Our vet suggested it was a temporary hormonal problem which would go away given time. But its not and is visibly getting worse week by week. The tail bone itself has no lesions , or ticks so far as you can see with the naked eye.
Does anyone else have experience of a similar problems, or should we get ourselves another vet ?? Any thoughts ??
