Tail set

Julie - that's hilarious!

Is the 'gay' tail dominant? Tully has one and is the only one in her line that has it. She is still show quality (would just need to ensure her tail didnt curl in the ring). I think she developed it as an agressive posture rather than it being in her genes, I dont have any photos of her as a pup with her tail over her back, but from about 9mths it appears. Perhaps the genes come with a tendency that can be kept in check?

However because of the curl (and having an extra long tail that drags on the ground) she has developed a bit of a kink in the end when she holds it out, but she wasnt born with it.

Also, Deska now copies Tully's tail - spitz curl and all! So dogs must be able to do it voluntarily. Deska has hardly any tail so when it curls over he looks silly. He only started doing it when he was older - he does it when Tully does it.

Sadie is more or less the same, her tail goes up and curls a bit when she's trying to look big and tough, but I just don't consider it a gay tail because its not curled 98% of the time.
 
Their tails look soooo gay.... I kid. I kid. I just had to. Hope I didn't offend anyone. (I am all for equal rights on every level :wink2:)
 
Ok I'm more confused. That type of tail set is dominant. I had been told that before but it didn't match what I've seen so that why I asked. Justice carries his tail high. 75% of the time it is normal, 15 % it is a couple degrees above the horizon. 9% if the time is about 45 degrees usually when he is excited and 1% when he is in rooster mode it is straight up but doesn't break over the back. I wouldn't call it a gay tail but it is not correct. Ember and Diva never raise their tails above the back, I doubt they can.

Now neither of Justice parents had a gay tail set. But his half sister(normal tail) had a litter brother with a g tail and she produced 1 puppy with a g tail. The rest of the puppies in both litters had 4 normal tails and 2 high slightly high like Justice. The sire of the half sister and her litter had normal tails(that I know). Maybe I need to be looking at the croup of these dogs and tail placment and see if there is something there. Because the pattern is not dominant in these dogs.

I'm looking for a stud for Diva next year and she has a brother with Justice's type of tail. All of her parents or grandparents have normal tails(that I know) A dog I like has a high tail like Justice(I don't like it)and he has produced g. tails. So I guess I risk g. tails if I use him. Well, I guess I'll keep looking and see if I can find something else, but keep him in mind. He does cross fault well with her.
