My pre-Sheltie Dow was cute fluffy and looked like a puppy at 12. But had what I call a back snarl. He would snarl while breathing in, scared everyone it sounded so evil.

OMG, Tully does the snarl lip at 16! She can't make the snarl sound anymore (well not that I can hear). But geez it keeps Della and Kismet in their tracks. Just makes me laugh though, it's too darn cute.

A sheltie wants what a Sheltie wants-- he was probably afraid you were going to eat his bone while he was gone and come on mom walks smalks it was bone time..gimmme a break. Yeah Sheltie talk, they do have opinions and are willing to express em.

Sometimes that quiet snarl has more effect than the loud ones…Riley would do the lip curl to Piper when Piper was a bit older (still a puppy but past the ‘cute’ stage to Riley haha). He’d curl his lip when Piper was being a brat and Piper would yelp and run from the room. Of course he’d run right back in (nothing phased him for long lol) but he’d get the message!
