Teeth???

The vet told me (I didn't have to ask) my shelties have nice dentition. Here I go thinking again. When a breeder states the dentition is off, what are they saying? I can't use this pup for show because the dentition is off. I see that on ads, and I thought well what does it look like? In the past I have been learning some things just from reading ads.

Like this puppy has a gay tail, can't use him for show. I didn't know what a gay tail was until that ad, my boy has a tail that curls up, and he is cute.

Back on the subject, are the bottom teeth over the top teeth? Do they have buck teeth? What does bad dentition look like on a sheltie? Never could figure that out.

Sable , I believe a pup with an off dentition has the same as Kiara, an overbite. That disqualifies them for show because the teeth must meet properly and not overlap the bottom teeth. I don't mind I happen to think Kia is beautiful!

Shelties should have a scissor bite with all teeth there and straight.
An overbite, underbite, or lance canines will all seriously hurt a show dog. Other faults are missing or crooked teeth.

I don't mind that gay tail mine has either. Kia is beautiful! I thought well how bad does this dentition have to be, and what does it look like. LP gave me a sight so I have to go look.

That sure is an excellent site. I give many kudos to the good breeders! Such a list of items to watch out for.

I know why I love buying pets, and I am not breeding. Looking at the correct bite, the teeth go over the bottom, I would almost think that is an overbite, but its not from that picture.

The narrow jaw is also interesting, the pet buyer, would they think about looking for a narrow jaw? Thanks Lightplum, and everyone for the info, its interesting.

Yes there is alot of info, and I feel like I have only scratched the surface! It makes me feel like such a newbie when I am around people who have done this for 30 years...They are such a wealth of infomation!

Seriously though, I was watching the Westminster from last year, and one lovely pup's tail curled up when trotting, so I don't think that's a fault. I think it's only a fault if the tail is curled at rest. (I noticed when handler's were stacking their dogs, they would consistently push the tail down low between their legs).

no he doesn't do it around males, his tail is up when he runs around the yard like a maniac. Otherwise his tail is down. I thought if they ran with the tail up, that was a fault, called gay tail. There I go with an ad I seen, and thought ohhhhh my boy has a gay tail (not around males, OMG THAT IS FUNNY). Maybe I will just say, he has style, and it adds to his personality. I love it, and he is my happy boy.
