Tiny 11 week old Sheltie

He is 3.6lbs and about 8.5 inches tall. He is 11 weeks old. I named him Hercules. I was wondering if anyone could give me a clue if he is going to be normal size or not. I have a female that is 3 weeks older and she weighs 10.9lbs not sure of height. It just seems wierd.

Size is very hard to predict with shelties. There are shelties on this forum who are 12 inches tall and others who are 20 inches. The breed standard for conformation is 13-16 inches.

My girl was 3.5 pounds and 7.5 inches tall at 10 weeks old. She is now 2 years old and weighs 14.5 pounds and is 13.5 inches tall. So, if your puppy's growth is similar to mine, he will be a smaller sheltie, but can possibly still be in size.

Best person to ask is your breeder, but it does vary. Different lines grow at different points. There is a great sheltie size link somewhere out there.

My Buffy was around 4 lbs at that age and now she is 13 lbs, 12 inches. So she is small.

There is an excel somewhere around the forum with the size info for most of our dogs.

You can plot his height on the Nobel growth chart on this site. According to that, your puppy is indeed on-track to be undersized. The chart doesn't offer a projected adult height so much as a guide for breeders to monitor whether their puppies are likely to stay in-size, but I hope it may be useful to you nonetheless.

I was thinking between 12-13" Since he is a boy he might suprise you and get bigger.

Like Randi said it is really hard to predict sheltie size. My friend had a sheltie boy who was about 9.5" at 11wks and barely made 13" he was 6 or 7 lbs too. and 14lbs as an adult.

My girl Ember was projected to be about 14.5" and I believe she was alittle over 10" at 11wks(I don't have her growth chart handy). She ended up being about the same size as Randy's Bailey, in fact, she shorter at 13 1/3' and 14.5lbs. So you never know.
