Too late to spay?

Hi everyone, Aimee is 10 months now and still not showing any signs of being in heat. A bit of a late bloomer I have :lol:

Originally I intended to have her go through her first heat before having her spayed, but I am starting to have second thoughts. If she was hypothetically close to her season right now, does that make the surgery any riskier than if I waited until after her first heat? Hopefully I am making sense!
 
It's not unusual for Sheltie girls to start their heats between 10 and 12 months of age. All my girls run on around a 10-month cycle, and Lacey just went more than 12 months before going into heat (although not her first).

I think since Aimee is certainly close to going in, I would wait. Your vet will then tell you to wait 2 to 3 months after her season to spay her. They like to wait for the reproductive system to clear before doing the surgery.

Have exactly the same perception as Ann - Minnie must be sterilized July 2 - 3 months. after her first term.:wink2:

(looking forward to it is over)
