Trainer Coming for Hartley!

The other day I called the owner of the new training facility in the area about Hartley, my goals for him and puppy classes. I really have a great feeling about her and the fact she believes in possitive reinforcement training.

Hartley will be 13 weeks on Monday and won't have his shots completed for a few weeks but she offers a "Puppy Package" 1hr-1 1/2 one on one training at her facility or my house. I chose my house and I will get the puppy classes he attends at a cheaper rate than if I hadn't done a private sesson. I loved this idea because I will have a few weeks to apply all we have learned at our private session before we start his classes.

She's coming to the house Thursday afternoon at 2:00, I told her to be prepared he is the wildest Sheltie I have ever had. :eek2:

My Sister Robin has been attending her tricks class and really is enjoying working with this trainer. It's nice to have a good reference to start with and Robin has worked with quite a few trainers through the years so I trust her opinion.

It will be exicting to see his journey as he learns basic stuff, and as he grows & matures.
We have so much fun seeing his pictures. He is going to be very good I just know it Dawn.

Keep us posted on his first lesson...zZZZooMMMMM!

We've been working on the basics and I want to make sure I am laying a good foundation for some future adventures and that I am training correctly for these things. As many have mentioned here it's hard to reverse things once they are trained a certain way.

I'm so glad you're enjoying his pics, he does learn quickly and you can see his mind working. That's the part that scares me, he definitely could be trouble if not trained properly or given something to do.

Today I look at him in his pen and he is on top of his crate, I can see him trying to figure out how to jump out and onto the antique chest it sits beside to find his way to freedom. :gaah

Can't wait to hear how it goes--something tells me that he will be a quick learner, and he will enjoy it.

Great plan! We took Layla to private Puppy Kindergarten class at about that age. What a great investment!!! We learned more in one class that we could believe!

That's so exciting Dawn. I just love puppy training, they (generally) have so muh enthusiasm.

Hartley sounds a bit like Epic who is easily the most 'switched on' sheltie I ever had and it is sometimes hard work to stay one step ahead, but I think positive reinforcement really works for this type because they need to use their brains rather than be coerced.

I'm intrigued to know about Hartley's future adventures too, sounds fascinating:wink2:

Good luck and let us know how it goes, don't forget to mention any useful tips too:wink2:

Looks like a lot of fun and work ahead. Great way to bond with your new baby. Can't wait for the new videos. I assume you will video.
