Trial Practice at home?

Does anyone know how to practice at home for a .run-thru? As you can see in this video from our last run-thru, (http://www.kidstube.com/videos/72827/cats-may-21,-2011) she needs a lot of practice with distractions and people near the ring. We're looking for a lot of run-thrus (there's ones on June 23 and June30) but is there anything we can do to work on at home?

Also, what are some essential obstacles to have for home practice? Thanks!:wink2:

I couldn't get you video to open for me.

Anyway I think practically about all you can really have for a backyard course with out going into overdrive, is 7 jumps , that way you can do a double box setup 4 is a minimum # of jumps in my opinion so you can at least setup a single box, you can do a lot with 4 jumps. maybe a tunnel , chute combo( these don't have to be commercial stuff you can use a kids play tunnel and for a chute another play tunnel but not streched out & then you could drape an old sheet over the exit end an pin it on with close pins ). some weave poles 6 for sure 12 if you can do it and a contact training board, and maybe a 10" wide 8 foot long plank set on a couple of cement blocks to practice walking down, cheap but effective.

Sure it would be nice to have everything LOL a frame,& teter, walk, but for most people that's just not practicle.

you could also see if you can have a couple of friends hang out and make a distraction while you are running her maybe laughing & clapping hands just off course.

I agree--I don't think it's necessarily the equipment that Nellie needs help with, it's focusing in the face of distraction.

Does she seem distracted in other environments, as well? (Petco, Farmers Market, etc...)? If so, I would start taking her out with you to places where there are people and dogs and just work on focus stuff with her. You can do easy stuff so she gains confidence (sits, downs, stays, etc...)

As for the equipment, I think jumps are the best things to have because you can do SO many different things...patterns, handling, collection, etc...I just think it depends what you need work on.

I started off with just jumps, then had contact issues so we made a contact board. Now I have jumps, a tunnel, a dogwalk, a mini a-frame, a tire and weaves. It's perfect because one dog has contact issues, and the other has issues collecting so we work on jumps and weaves a lot.

you can always call around and do a rental here and there, grab few family members, couple of kids from the street::biggrin2: and you have your own run thru...

That sounds like fun. We do have an agility friend who is planning on building some of her own jumps& teeter. Our plan is to set up a course, then switch yards to try new equipment.

Today the neighbor's kids (4&8)were out in the yard & came over to see Nellie. They were running outside the fence and she was fine. When tet are inside, they like to chase her, so Nellie got nervous. I was very proud of her overall. Some bikes have gone past-no problemo! My dad standing in the ring...a little distracted but a lot better. We'll have to see how she does at the run-thru on Thrus.
