tricks class!

my trainer has the cutest trick A la Cesaer Millan, you teach dog to roll over on cue at your side and pretend to kick with your leg to start rolling just like CM shows. It is pretty hilarious :biggrin2:
I loved taking ST on line class, it really helped us to start as she is very helpful, Silvia also gives choice of one of her DVD as parting gift.
I am thinking of signing for agility foundation class. I really could benefit from tight turns cic^cap offers and I really like to teach agility as tricks too so it is all fun:razz:

I've taken that online class with Silvia back in February this year! You'll love it! Silvia is really great at helping everyone and giving you advice on how you should proceed with your dog. You'll see that most of her 'tricks' are for core building, making the dog think better and set the stage for agility ;) It's very clever of her. I loved the class. Here is my graduation video if you want to watch it. Not all the tricks are on there and we are still working on some and perfecting others :)

I'm also taking her Running Contacts class and just finished her Agility Foundations class! She is really wonderful - she answers all your posts, and has such a keen eye. I'm amazed really as to how she keeps all the dogs straight and sees things that I would never see. I will be taking the Advanced Tricks class this November with her and I just signed up for the Handling class. I can't wait to start. I've learned so much in the last few months with her and my bond with Maia and Chinook has quadrupled.

Ann, I know your dogs were already great trick dogs before the tricks class...did you feel like this was something you would do with a dog that may have had less exposure to shaping, clicker training, and tricks in general?

I think the class sounds fun, but feel like my dogs might be really far behind. Those tricks seem like something my two could never do.

Ania, I also noticed how my relationship with pups blossomed.
Glad you have good report about class. I am pretty broke with Che's treatment bills but don't want to miss opportunity to learn more foundations.
Bet pups can't wait too:biggrin2: Play is work and work is play, here we come!

Silvia is really good at helping people along with their dogs and giving you suggestions on what to do to get your dog to learn. To answer your question, does it help if your dog knows the clicker and is familiar with shaping, sure. But is it a prerequisite, no. In my class, there were all sorts of dogs, older dogs, young puppies and in between like my two. Some had never used a clicker and others never used shaping. You would be suprised how fast a dog picks it up. Plus, not all dogs learned all the tricks - mine didn't - to this day, I cannot get them to do the 'frog' . Everyone goes at their pace, and not everyone will do all the tricks in each lesson. Some tricks are prerequisites for lessons down the road, so those you will need to do. But like I said, Silvia is really great at giving you advice on your particular dog. I cannot say enough good things really - my classmates were helpful and encouraging and so was Silvia. If you are thinking of taking the class, I would at least 'charge' the clicker so the dog is familiar with what it means and play a game called '101 things to do with a box'. It encourages dogs to offer behaviours making it easier to shape behaviours down the road.
