Trifexis deadly?

My little 6 month old Pom, Dawson, died of a seizure the morning after his 2nd dose of Trifexis earlier this year. Elanco paid to have an autopsy done and the diagnosis was amanita mushroom poisoning (1ppm according to the lab analysis). I don't recall him eating any mushrooms but they are around so I could not absolutely rule that out. With Hanna, I decided to not use the Trifexis and stick with Revolution.

When Sentinel was having its production issues, my vet gave me Trifexis.
I drove home, read the cons, and immediately drove the 25 minutes back and got Heartguard. Gavin is MDR normal, so that wasn't a concern. I felt safer with something that had a much longer track record. Now we are happily back on Sentinel!

I am a tech at a vets office, and we have never had a death caused by trifexis. We have had the side affect of vomiting the pill up, and we report it to elanco. But no deaths.

My boys are on trifexis, and they are fine.

It seems to be case by case.

When I researched it, the vomiting was the biggest issue I saw online.
I didn't want to have to deal with it since getting a replacement dose means a 25 minute car trip each way.
I wasn't as concerned with death as a side effect since that seemed pretty rare.

I wish I could use sentinel year round, I use it in the winter only. We live in south ga in the country and the dogs get fleas.

I have used trifexis for a year now with my 9 yr old with no issues. Ruutu has had it since he was 8 weeks old. It seems like the ones that it did happen to are during the first one or two doses. Luckily, my vet is right across the street from me.

It is very unfortunate to hear of the deaths of these dogs. Missy has been on Trifexis since she was a puppy, and we've never had issues with it. I do know of two standard poodles (They belong to two different families, not sure if they share any doggy relatives) who did not tolerate it, and the Trifexis made them vomit each time they were given it, even with food. I feel like the same thing can happen with humans and medication too though, sometimes people just can't take certain medications. For example, Midol makes me very sick every time I've tried to take it. But anyways, I realize this is different because I don't think I've heard of any Midol-related deaths.

I hope they figure out what is making these dogs die and something can be done about it. For now, I'm just grateful that Missy can take it with no problems.
