Trimming down the sides

Randy is looking shaggy down his sides and his chest fur is almost dragging the ground. I am hesitant about trimming him myself, but I've seen what some of the local groomers do to shelties and am afraid of them also. Any tips on trimming down the sides?

Best book for grooming Shelties

The Illustrated Guide to Sheltie Grooming By : Barb Ross
This book has helped me out greatly. I always sent my dogs to the groomer and only one groomer did I really like and she did a fantastic job. When she moved away I needed something. :uhoh: That's when someone suggested this book to me, from someone on the forum can't remember who but it's a life saver. Be sure to buy it on amazon through SheltieNation.com gets credits for our sites.

I agree. Love this book! It's my bible. I only wish it had actually photos instead of drawn pictures, however, the descriptions are very detailed.

If you are hesistant still about doing it yourself, you just need to be more forceful with your groomer and give detailed instructions for what you want. Bring a picture with you, if necessary. I don't blame the groomers entirely. They have hundreds of breeds that they need to groom so sometimes they need to improvise with what they think best (kind of a "one size fits all" approach
