Two Lessons & Couldn't be Happier!

Mikos has now completed two classes at the new training facility and we couldn't be happier. This is very different from PetSmart classes and there is so much to learn that we both come away tired after the hour class. I love the positive training, as does Mikos with all the treats involved but he responds so much better to this method.

I goofed in the last class when I gave him a gentle 'no' when he didn't do his sit and the trainer had to remind me that we don't say no! We also have to practise our run and down because even though he downs quickly, he does it in front facing me not at my side. We also need practise on our heel, look, spin, touch combo but that seems to be more of an operator error as I get my choreography sorted out!

Our homework list is posted on the fridge as well as diagrams I am making up of the different commands like 'around' and 'get ready' for my reference and the rest of the family! I am still not the cookie, and can not get him all excited at class yet but that I am sure will come.

I have had one huge reality check with this, Mikos is not the only one who went back to school!:biggrin2: Mikos starts to zone about 45 minutes into the class, and I can honestly say that I am not far behind him! I know he is giving a huge effort to me, and I am trying to do my best for him so I guess that explains the tired after class!

Thanks to everyone here who have recommended or talked about using these methods because it motivated me to get Mikos into the right program for him!

PS; Just got Mikos' registration certificate in the mail and because ownership was transferred after we did his CGN the title is on the certificate! We are so excited, he is Azarel Archangel CGN!!

Glad you found a good trainer. Not always an easy task. I too have noticed the 45 minute attention lapse. Lexi has developed more stamina over time. She is in two classes a week and has been going to classes for 2.5 years. Pyper is in one class and still starts to loose focus after the 45 minute mark. She's only 11 months, so I imagine she'll start to gain stamina, also.

WOW! that sounds like a great class! i wish there was something like that around here. the only classes that i have been able to find AT ALL are the petsmart ones. which i guess is better then nothing at all, but still. im pretty sure that is our only option unless we want to go more then an hour away.

Sounds awesome!!! I'm envious! .... I can't wait until January, when I can get Miko into something similar. (we'll likely opt for N. Van as it's a shorter drive for us)

Sounds like you are having fun and it is most important IMHO. Play is work and work is play. I also would heartily recommend signing up for upcoming recallers on line course, it is best investment one could make if they are really into fun of training with a dog.
For the 45 minutes our experience- I am much more likely to take my dog out every so often and have nice tugging session or chase one several times during the class. I did not do it when I just started but now I have no problems excusing ourselves and going behind the gates to have fun tug session or chase /run
