UGH! Nobody in my area sells anything other than Trifexis. What to do?

I came in really late to the whole Interceptor thing and unfortunately I did not find out until I was out of it and Cali was due! I usually just shoot on over to her vet and pick up another 6-12 month supply but that obviously isn't going to happen this time  My vet carries nothing but Trifexis now and after seeing all the possible issues and side effects I just can't bring myself to risking it with Cali after the past few months the poor girl has had. She is back 100% and I just couldn't live with myself if she were to get sick and end up back at the vet because of something I gave her.

I have always given Revolution to all of my cat's and have never had a bad result from it and after reading around here as well as some other forums I have decided that I want to put Cali on it as well. Unfortunately my vet doesn't carry it and doesn't "like it" (The vet is a whole other story.. Cali and I will be looking for a new vet to say the least..). I am willing to do whatever I need to do but I have having problems finding vets that carry it for dogs. Does anybody know if places like Banfield (inside Petsmart) carry it? I will gladly take her in and have a heartworm test done (even though she just had one a few weeks ago) to get it. I know that is a prerequisite with some places in order to get them.

Long story short.. I just want to find the fastest way to get Revolution for Cali as she is due for heartworm meds and the mosquitoes have been ridiculous in my area for some reason. Can anybody steer me in the right direction? I live in Harford County, MD if that helps. Much appreciated everyone!

couldn't tell you what's up there- I have switched to Heartgard which I would think you could get at any vet.....
I did use Trifexis for one month and took it all back to my vet - not saying for sure that it led to Callie's seizures but once a dog has had seizures, they are not supposed to use Trifexis.

I think I can get Heartgard Plus from my vet (not positive) but I thought the whole Ivermectin thing was something to stay away from with Shelties. Something with "white feet, don't treat" or something along those lines? I am just so scared to change meds with her after being on the same thing for all these years :(

current formula is safe- as Justicemom (Dr. Shelli) has pointed out in many posts, the MDR1 gene affects Ivermectin as well as the active ingredients in most of the heartworm meds including Interceptor. If you use the liquid Ivermectin and aren't careful about measuring, then you'll have something to worry about. Actually using Heartgard with premeasured dosage isn't the same.

The vet pulled the switch on my this morning. I was hoping they had sentinel, and I had no clue that wasn't was I getting until I went to pick up from the pharmacy and they hand me trifexis. The vet never mentioned it, just gave it to me. As soon as I could double check online to see what I wanted (and it wasn't trifexis) I had to drive back and get heartguard. It was an extra 40 minutes to make the drive back but I couldn't stomach the thought of Gavin having a reaction to trifexis even though I'm sure the odds are he'd be fine. But I definitely didn't want him on it for a year! they aren't predicting sentinel supplies at my vet until maybe mid-2013. N.Ca isn't a hotbed of heartworm infestation so I get that it might be a while.

I find it highly irresponsible of vets to push it without even mentioning that it is different than sentinel and how (killing fleas with a pesticide vs flea birth control). And that side effects are not JUST vomiting, which is all the pharmacy tech would say. maybe i should have tried the online route, but I would have had to make a big stink at the vets to get an Rx as they don't normally give them cause they want to sell you the meds.

Just the other day I noticed that the Sam's Club we use in Bloomington, Minnesota, carried a good selection of pet meds in their pharmacy department. I am not sure about the specific one you are looking for, but since Sam's Club is a nation wide retailer, I would guess that all of their pharmacies carry pet meds. Worth a look at least.

I have been going in Sam's Club for ages, never looked, so I never knew they carried pet meds. Thanks!

Looks like Heartgard it is! Luckily my mother has 2 doxies that use it and are in the same weight range as Cali. Just gave her the first dose. I know this thread is probably beating a dead horse, but I am just soo scared to give her new meds. Thanks al
