Update on Bailey's Stomach

Randi - Really sorry to hear you little ones have been sick ... it really sounds like you guys have been having a tough time. Glad to hear that things are slowly getting back to normal. I know how hard it is with one ill dog, I can't image 3.

Wishing you guys all the best.

I originally thought it was the CT water because Bailey has a sensitive stomach, so maybe her stomach wasn't used to out of state water. All states filter their water differently. My other dogs got sick about 4 days after Bailey. I didn't think it was a contagious virus. Otherwise, I wouldn't have allowed them to share the same water bowl. We original thought it was a bad reaction to the water or something Bailey ate in the park. She did pick up something towards the end of the picnic and when I opened her mouth, she already swallowed it.

Al my dogs are vaccinated against parvo. Unless, it is a new weaker strain, it's possible. They didn't need to be hospitalized for days on fluids, so it couldn't have been the normal parvo we are familiar with.

My guess would be corona virus. It is mild viral diarrhea. Self limiting. Signs are the worse in young dogs and puppies. Older dogs rarely show any signs other than loose stool if anything at all. Exposure produces good immunity. Most of the time dogs get it and we never know and chalk it up to something else.

If it had been Parvo, you would have known it. Very very severe disease.

When we were on our motor home trip, Megan had a few days where she would eat, but I really had to entice her. She behaved pretty normal, had a couple of days of mild diarrhea and one day of not going at all. We fed her a little bit of pumpkin, yogurt. I figured like you Dr. Shelli, she picked up some virus OR Lord only knows what she may have eaten a piece of while on her many walks. Within a day of being back home and on her normal routine, she's been totally normal
