Update on Kip's 'Clicking Sound'

I'm going to call Dr. Head, (the recommended vet) next week after the holiday break to schedule a consultation. Even though I'm feeling much better after what Kip's breeder said, I do just want to know for sure.
 
Update: My regular vet did some research (plus I told her what the breeder said) and she now thinks that it's likely that nothing is really wrong. He is just growing and the knee joint is a bit loose. Again, I'm very relieved to hear this, but I'm still concerned and keeping a VERY close eye on him for signs of pain. My vet recommends that we do x-rays again at 9-10 months to check the knee joint and make sure it still looks ok. I'll definitely do that.

I think I'm hearing the clicking less, but I'm not 100% sure. I used to hear it countless times a day, and now most of the time I hear it fewer than 10 times. But I'm not sure because of course I'm not listening to his knee all the time. Otherwise, he is still acting fine.

I had made an appointment with the orthopedic vet for later this month, but with this new info from the vet, I may cancel for now and see how Kip is doing in a few months.
 
Well this is a good update. Fingers crossed he will indeed outgrow it. I feel for you having to keep him quiet and entertained though. So hard with a puppy! Thanks for letting us know.
 
Something else I noticed: Kip almost always does a 'lazy' or 'relaxed' sit and down. I think some people call it a sloppy sit. What I mean is that he usually rolls over on one hip when I ask him to sit or lie down. Not always, but the majority of the time. He doesn't do the perfectly straight obedience style sit or down.

I don't care at all about performance obedience, so I really don't care if this is how he prefers to sit and lie down. I'm just wondering if other puppies do this, is it normal, or could it be a sign that he's uncomfortable?

Yes, we always call this the puppy sit, as all our pups did it while young. Usually they seem to straighten out when you start training heel and sit when stopped. At least, until we got Faith at age 2. She has done a sloppy puppy sit always. :rolleyes2: SIGH she is special in so many ways!!! :lol:
 
Quite funny that you just mentioned this "sit" :wink2:

I remember now that I was very surprised
that -Minnie as a puppy- rarely sat down
and when she did it looked so weird :yes:

(I was used to GSD puppies)
 
Glad to hear the puppy sitting is normal! I read about it online too (after posting here) and it sounds like its pretty common with puppies. Kip is my first puppy in 7 years, so I can't really remember how my last puppy sat (Jessie, my GSD mix).

Kip continues to click less. I'm feeling more optimistic, but I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed.
