Volunteering at the Herding Trials

Tomorrow I am volunteering as a timer at the the Canadian All Breed Herding Trial Championships. It should be amazing to see the best doing the herding and I am hoping to learn lots about the sport. I would really like to get Mikos into it at some point so this will be a good learning experience for me.

I'm guessing those handlers don't have to do the chicken dance to get thier sheep :smile2: that was the signal for A course sheep at our trial. Some handlers went to the post and did the chicken dance.

My parents just went to the International in Scotland. Fun times.

Buy yourself a herding whistle, and see how long it takes to blow anything but spit. :smile2: do not practice at the trial.

Shelties doing well!

I was a time keeper yesterday for the herding trials and it was great to watch all the dogs working. The first run for all levels was completed yesterday and when they handed out the awards both the started and intermediate levels were won by shelties!!! One thing that really surprised me was how quiet the competition was because hardly any of the dogs barked and those that did only barked occasionally. Only one of the shelties entered made any sound, it seemed to be the corgi's that barked more!

I was told the best dogs are quiet, they bark when they really mean it to warn the sheep- do it or else...
compare to agility it is slow motion movie. I would love to see trials close ones that I could attend.
Che has a fantastic drive but likes to work for himself a lot. Leo is turning out to be a dream dog, he likes to please mommy, he herds but I do not think he really has a soul of farm dog.
