Hope I'm putting this greeting in the correct place. I'm in Rockford in north central Illinois. I rescued McDuff (mahogany sable neuter) from our county shelter last spring. What a miserable little guy he was, huddled at the back of the shelter's concrete pens. They told me he had been running wild in an old, unused baseball stadium for several days and the animal control officer had a really hard time catching him. It took Duff a few days to get over the trauma and about a week before he seemed to settle into his new home and completely relax. It's hard to imagine why his original owner didn't come to claim him at the shelter. He's a lovely dog and was very well taken care of.

My last sheltie, McDougal, died about 25 years ago. I used to show in obedience and teach classes at our local club. Dougal came up to Illinois with me from Alabama. Since then I've had collies, GSD's and a border collie. Currently I have two GSD's, both rescued from the same shelter. Now that I finally have another sheltie, can't think why I waited so long.

The three dogs and two cats live with me on a little farm. A very secluded place more than a mile from the nearest road. It's a great place for dogs. No neighbors to bark at or bother and no traffic to worry about. We have lots of places to wander and run free. Little Duff considers himself the dog-police and is constantly correcting and attempting to herd both 85+ pound GSDs.

Hoping to get to know other sheltie people on the forum.
 
Hi, your farm sounds like doggy heaven. I have to say how wonderful you are to love and home a homeless doggy. I hope you and all your furry family members have many many wonderful years together.
 
Hi, I think I read your post about adopting a sheltie. I know some of the rescues can be difficult and you don't often stumble on a sheltie in a county shelter but keep looking. My town isn't very large, but they get a great assortment of dogs at the county shelter. I don't have a fence and a breed rescue would have never given me a dog.

Have you tried Pet Finder. I registered with them and am still getting alerts from all over my area about pure bred and mixed breed dogs that fit my criteria and are available.

I am so lucky with Duff. Not the first problem with him. Never an accident in the house and he doesn't chew. I wish you luck and hope I read very soon that you found a wonderful pet.
 
rescue sheltie

I rescue my male sable from my work. His owner boarded him and went on an business trip and got real sick and could not come back and get him. I live in Amarillo TX at the time. Work as an dog groomer at an Vet clinic. I have had him from Jan 8 2003 he is now between 11 and 12 years old.
 
Welcome and congrats at rescuing this poor little Sheltie. He's better off with you, of that I'm certain.

Your farm sounds like a slice of doggy heaven. We live on a 1/4 acre in a community with some rude neighbors out back of us who's dog charges our fence 2-3 times a week. Can't wait to retire and leave this dreadful place. Hopefully we'll find a house on a bit more land somewhere in NC or FL.

My Beau is a rescue dog to, the most lovable thing this side of heaven. Shy at first, but, not anymore, just afraid of other dogs but other than that if you were here right now, he would go up to sit by your side and ask for belly rub, I'm sure in no time yours will be doing the same
