Weave Pole Issue Resolved

I think or I am hoping we resolved his popping the 10th pole in class and at trials.I went over to my friends house last Sat.andshe has a nice agility field and so I showed her what Sting was doing. She took him and worked poles with him and tossing his treat at the end of the poles and he did not pop.So I have done this all week at my house and her house and no popped poles.Tonight is class so we shall see.I have Sting entered at the Thanksgiving Cluster for 2 days and had considered pulling him because of the popped weaves and it is a very hefty entry so now that he is not poppping he may do well.I only do 4 sets of weaves and end it.

Hi Sharon,
I'm glad that Sting is doing better with his weaves. I wanted to let you know that someone (awhile ago) sent me a Clean Run article from September of 09 with several trainers' takes on 10th pole popping. I'm not sure if you have it, or would be interested in reading it, but I can email it to you if you want to PM me your address.

Good job on the weave pole training! I bet Sting will have beautiful weaves when he runs at the Cluster.

I need to use the same technique to build Phebe's independence in the weaves. I think we've almost built enough value into a toy now. I've been using a bumper with a treat pocket on it, and she's finally tugging with some urgency, so I'm going to trying throwing it ahead of her in the weaves while I stop at about pole 7. I'll let you know how it goes.

sounds like great success
and Margaret I think that is a solid idea, and how awesome to hear she is going to be a tugging fool :) :biggrin2:

Oh yay. Good luck with that. I know one trainer who basically trains 16 weaves, so that 12 is "short" and no popping occurs. Not sure if that's something you can do. Maybe add a set of 6 onto the 12? It's a lot though.

Keep us posted if you enter, I'd love to hear all about the show and Sting's performance.
