weaves steps

Something I read in Nancy Gyes blog about wanting her dog to single step during the weaves... so last night at classes I asked my friend to observe and we established that Che single steps. He is still at the slower stage of moving but is pretty reliable for not popping out weaves. Che is almost 14 months old and large/ long bodied doggy. Except for proofing his weaves and speeding them up, should I be concerned about single stepping- am not sure how it makes difference?

The single step is usually faster through the weaves than what I call the sheltie hop. All of mine to date do the hop, but I am anticipating my 16" Ember and the BC pup Fable single stepping. I have been told the single step is harder on the body than the hop. For the most part, it seems to largely depend on the size of the dog/how they're built/their natural stride length whether they single step or hop.

From what I've observed, smaller dogs tend to hop through the weaves. Edan alternates between hopping and single stepping, especially with the change to 24 inch weave poles.

You know, I'll have to actually watch his vids a little closer to see how he's navigating the 24 inch poles. 20 inch poles he hopped through.
