What about those calming essential oils?

I'm sure a lot of you are on Facebook, so you probably know what I'm talking about - have you seen those ads for essential oil roll-ons that you use on your dogs to calm anxiety? Of course the comments under the ads say that this is the best thing ever.

Am I considering getting it for my boys? No.

But I am really curious if anyone has used something like this and if they actually work. I admit I was curious because as I mentioned in a different post, our boys are covid boys who are going to have to get used to being left alone now and then, and I know little Bryan gets pretty antsy if he doesn't know where I am. I don't know if I'd have the nerve to try something like this kind of product to help him chill out a bit, so I won't chance it in case it makes him sick. I'd simply die if I made my boys sick.

Anyway, any thoughts on these things?

a roll-on for a long haired dog? don't think that would work too well:eek2::confused2::pop:uhoh:

I’ve heard of using lavender essential oil mixed with water in a spray bottle and sprayed on objects (a pillow, blanket etc) but don’t know if it actually works. You could try it and see if it helps.

I think with the level of sensitivity in a dog's smell, essential oils might be a bit overpowering.

Besides, what a dog thinks of as a relaxing smell is definitely not my definition: fetid road kill, vomit, excrement and pee - BLAH!!! Imagine that in your house
