What Could It Be?

Cheyenne's Mom

Forums Novice
Hi... I've been reading Sheltie Nation for several years (I guess about 6 since Cheyenne is almost 6), and I just have never really gotten into the forums, but now I need to see if I can find out something. Cheyenne has what seems to be a semi-hard, rough node on the side of her nose. I noticed this a few months ago but didn't pay too much attention. Recently though, my husband noticed it and did some on-line research and saw a recommendation to put fish oil (from a regular capsule) on her nose and some in her food, as the indication was she may not have much fat in her diet. Before I go into her diet and weight issues, does ANYONE have any idea what this might be? Has anyone experienced this with their Sheltie or any other kind of dog? I appreciate any and all responses! THANKS!! :rolleyes2:

It could be a cyst, in which case the vet could either remove it or aspirate it. I would definitely have it looked at.

Max had something similiar in his nose. It was a cyst. He told me to put bacitracin on and it was doing nothing so I mixed colloidal silver with sacred Frankinscense oil and watched it shrik until there was nothing. Sending good thoughs your way for a speedy recovery.

Well, the vet visit actually was kind of a relief!! It isn't a cyst, but merely something like a callus!! It comes from her doing the "happy girl" lay on her side and rub her nose while scratching the carpet after she eats thing. LOL Remedy was to put glycerin on it. Yucky stuff to us, but she doesn't seem to mind. Only other issue was she needs to lose 5 pounds... ME TOO!! LOL Thanks to you both for your posts and good wishes!!! :biggrin2:

Thanks for the update! I am so happy to hear that it isn't anything to worry about.

Don't be shy about sharing more with us! It is great to have you as a member.

Definitely a vet visit is in order. I personally would not recommend any kind of topical or other solution for something like that.

That's such good news. There are just times you have to go to the vet. Helps the worrying go away.
