What do you ask your groomer for?

We all have our horror stories of the good, the bad and the ugly of Sheltie grooming experiences.

I thought it might be useful if we share what we asked our groomers for and what we actually got.

And share terminology in groomers lingo that might actually help you get the results that you are looking for.

So please share your interactions with your groomer, what worked and did not work.

The point here is to provide guidelines to someone looking for a new groomer and what questions to ask about their experience with Shelties. Not simply to share the horror.

I would start out with my own list, but frankly, I'm so pooped right now that i could not get beyond the idea (a really bad week: store robbery, car accident, computer reconfig required, yadda, yadda) So I thought I would just start the dialogue and jump in later! :smile2:

I call from work and say Moooooommmmmm can you do me a favor wash so&so with whatever...she follows direction really well

We love our groomer Marissa, she works out of our vet's office around the corner.

She gives Beau a bath and a simple trim up like I ask, I love how she trims his tail, she makes it look like a foxes tail.

We're going in for a nail trim next week.

I know I should do this on my own but, every time I do it he freaks out and I know I don't really know what I'm doing so I'd rather pay someone and come back looking like I'm his savior.

Last time we went Marissa was hugging him and he gave me a look like," Momma, I promise I'll be good, Please don't leave me!" I felt pretty guilty:yuckyuck

The one and only time I've taken Clancy for a professional groom, I asked for 'not much scissoring' around the ears - I was worried they'd do that blunt edge trim and I like a more natural look. Next time I'll ask for a bit more scissoring around the ears as they left them pretty much in their flyaway state

I said the same for the pants area and they did an awesome job of trimming them without losing the natural look.

Mainly I asked them just to bath him and remove as much undercoat as they could. Oh yeah, and I also asked them to give him a bit of a hygiene clip under his tail (when she wrote it down she put 'clean up bum' LOL). And they really cleaned him up ... I was surprised to see bright pink skin glaring at me as he ran away from me in the backyard. Maybe next time I'll ask them not to completely clip the fur away. It was embarassing as I didn't know where to look :o
