What to do???

So I have this rather large dilemma going on in my home right now and I'm not sure how long it can last......... My mother had to go to Arizona for 10 days with her husband to see his father who is really sick. I agreed to take her Golden Retriever for the time because I have a fenced in yard. Well, I have to say that I really don't care for this Golden very much and I never have. That is terrible, I know. For a Golden, she is very very dumb. She is not trained well on the leash, she has no manners for people or dogs and she is very clumsy and this is not for lack of effort on my mother's part. She has never had a Golden that wasn't perfectly trained to the T. You would think that by 4 or 5 years old she would be beyond this. Well, needless to say my girls are not happy with me and I have my house sectioned off into two large sections so they can roam but not mix with each other. Marlie growled and snapped at Bandi severly times and Rasha was ok, but then Bandi started to push the envelope with her and for the first time ever, I heard her growl a warning. I don't know what I'm going to do for 9 more days?! Any suggestions? This is crazy!!!

it's just the first day...
the pack is trying to figure out what's going on... Did yout ake the Golden out for long walk/run first before you brought him into house? Maybe letting the big dog out first, alone... and give him/her lots of exercise so that he/she is easier to calm down... Then take out Shelties alone... to let them romp...
They should be too tired to go on too much...
Definately seperating them when you can't supervise is a good idea, I think...

Have patience (with any golden, apparently that's a must, lol) and remember only 9 more days 9 more days

AHHH, so sorry to hear this. A golden is a big dog to have no manners! Stay with the divide and conquer; and give the golden the smallest divide. Remember that it isn't your job to punish the golden's bad behavior, just don't reward it! Sounds like your mom just got a dud pup if she's good at training dogs and this one just is too stubborn or dumb to learn! Give your shelties their own space and just keep them separated from the golden.

??? Any chance that the golden is deaf?

Ahh that was my first thought! Janet could be on to something.We had a hearing impaired Aussie/Chow. When we first came to think she was hearing impaired,was when we were trying to train some simple commands. With proper hearing tests,it turned positive she was deaf.

But then again,if the dog is just plain clueless,and has not been worked with,and at the age of 4 or 5 years,the dog has developed some bad habits.But never to late,for someone to get the pup on the right road to good manners.
Remember this is your home and your babes home,the golden is the stranger. I would do as Janet said.
