When Alan first moved in he was VERY frustrated with Indy as Indy would not follow his commands. LOL....I told and told and told Alan and it just took a while for it to sink in:
Indy is a southerner. You are giving Yankee commands.
I told Alan: say his name, then say the command with generous vowels, and he'll do it every time. Example: the word "sit" has TWO SYLLABLES when said by a southerner! When we got Emma it was the same scenario as Russ and I were the ones taking Emma to class, not Alan. So, again, Emma trained to a southern accent.
I've tried speaking to Jack in a Scottish accent. He doesn't respond too well.
