what's with the vaccumm

My housekeeper solved this herself.

She tried crating the dogs but they just barked themselves hoarse. So now she just leans over and shakes a finger at them and in a deep voice, says: "Ah! Ah!" They back off immediately.

It worked for the vacuum and now it works for my blow dryer.

I guess that's more genteel than my method: Hollering "Knock it off, you little morons!!!"

I think I posted about this before. When Dylan was a puppy, he was barking and lunging himself at the vacuum. What I did was I left vacuum running and starting to play with him with his toys around the vacuum. He was little hesitant at first, but eventually caught on vacuum equals play. Now whenever I vacuum (which is everyday with his fur flying all over my place), he brings his toy to me expecting for a play. I don't have to play too much. He gets bored knowing I pay attention to vacuum more than I do to him and gives up to go sleep on the couch. When I got my maltese, she barked at the vacuum initially, but soon realized Dylan's abosulte disregard to the vacuum and stopped paying attention to it too. Now she just sits and watches me vacuum. So maybe you can associate vacuum with play. You should find something your sheltie loves to play. It has to be more interesting than vacuum. Good luck.

I vacuumed for the first time today with McKinley. Ron entertained him and "Ah ah"ed him whenever he looked that way. Let's see if that works.

I guess my suggestion is to try a tag team with your pup if you can.




Did you tip your housekeeper for the dog training? She is definitely (sp?) a keeper for that!

She's been part of my family for over 10 years! She practically raised my kids! She may not be the best, but she sure is the most loyal, flexible and forgiving person I know. Now that I think on it, she IS due for a raise....!

This could work. It's how I got Bacca used to the Peticure. Slow acclimatization.

Wished it had worked for me but Deska is just sooooo intent on attacking moving and noisy objects. I tried acclimatising only to discover he can attack a vacuum for hours - and while he is eating treats!

Marlie was terrible about the vacuum when we first got her. I belonged to another forum back then and asked for advice. I was told to try the penny can. I would shake the penny can at her slightly when she would start barking at it and she backed off. I think I had to do this two or three times and she finally got the idea to stop. She never barks or chases the vacuum now, she tries to hide from it!

i just pretend we're going to let him out to go potty in the back yard or in a different room....he stays out there while i vaccume and swiffer.... i made the vaccume mistake a while ago...been 5 years i suppose since he's been in the same room with me when i clean. i cant even dust the fans with out him going bezurk!

as annoying as it is, I cannot help but to laugh. So I dont get on to them, I just kick them out of the house or crate them if they are making it impossible for me to do house work.
