When to switch over to Adult food?

Jasper will be turning 1 next month and I was wondering when you make the switch to adult food. My understanding was at one year of age they are no longer a puppy and need to be placed on adult food. Also, in making the switch do you transition the same as you would switching food, over time? What is everyone's opinions on this issue? Thanks for all the feedback...
 
I am using TOTW, which I believe is an "all stages" dog food. I was using Orijen though, and was about to switch from puppy to adult anyway when I found TOTW. Smudge has been on "adult" food since he was about 7 1/2 months old. He's 8 months old now. :yes:
 
I just last week asked my vet this exact question about Gus who is 9 months old today. She told me it's fine to start transitioning now--do it over a few weeks. I would think you're "good-to-go" at a year.
 
I started transitioning between 10 and 11 months....and did it slowly. She was on all adult food by around one year.

And yes, do transition over a 2 to 3 week period - particuarly if you are switching brands.
 
I switched over at 4 months to raw food and TOTW. A good brand with no fillers is much better that puppy food. No local store (other than petco) around here recommends puppy food after 12 weeks. The vet recommends puppy food for 1 full year. You need to do a comparison of ingredients and decide which you'd rather eat if you had too.
