Why do shelties sleep on their back?

Gracie does not like to be on her back at all-guess it doesn't fit her princess image! But our goofy George, the most skittish little rescue puppy when we got him, sleeps on his back totally laid back and all out. He loves his crate and is just too dark to get a good picture of him. He has been doing well for months, but my husband was away for three days and George fell in love with me over those three days and has been Mr. Lovey-Dovey with me ever since. Something changed in his little pea brain during those days! He is soooo cute--oops, he prefers me to say he's handsome, lol!
So if you ever question about getting a rescue dog, anyone, don't hesitate--if George could change into this trusting, lovable little critter, any dog can change with lots of patient love!
 
:lol: my pup does this with his teeth showing too. I have a pic, I'll have to post it when I get home from work. His parents both do this as well.
 
Callie- not so much. I actually asked a sheltie person about that within the first year that I had her since I never saw her belly.

Cran- yes- most of the time.
Dixie- yes- not as much but still plenty
Jocu- yes- probably in between the brown dogs in frequency
