Width recommendation for Martingale?

Hi all,

I am about to order a Martingale collar for my tiny guy (13 pounds) and am wondering what width is suggested?

Also, rolled leather or flat nylon. I'm not a big fan of the leather ones that I have seen that have a chain to work as the slip portion.

Thanks,

Ed

I agree with rolled leather btw....flat nylon can catch in the Sheltie's ruff and contribute to matting. I don't know why you have an issue with chain. I use a product by Leashes by Design...narrow braided leather.....unfortunately, she only works on a limited basis these days, but someone posted recently at alternate supplier.....I can't find the link at the moment but it is here somewhere on the forum.

I don't know anything about martingale collars but I love rolled collars. Unfortunately Hanna outgrew hers, and the pet store had nothing smaller than a 12" still too big for her, so I got her a flat collar instead and I hate what it does to her fur. Rolled leather is the best! Will be shopping again soon.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it comes down to that I don't like the look of the chain, but I want to ensure that I have the safest one for Cody. The sizing information helped quite a bit. I took a look at the Leashes by Design and they are beautiful. I will check in on that. Do you have any other favorites for rolled martingale styled collars? I was also wondering about the width of the actual collar material. Right now he is wearing a 1/2" collar, but do you think 3/4" would be o.k. or is that still to narrow?

Thanks again.

Ed
