It's a beautiful morning. I decide to drag out the grooming table to the front lawn, in the shade and do some major line brushing on my Haley girl. Soft pillows of undercoat are gently blowing in the breeze. I'm leaning over her shoulder, pin brush in hand. All of a sudden, I hear this loud grumbling ferocious growl.
I look up and it's our new mailman, walking up the walkway. He took two steps and then freezes--his hand on his belt, near the mace.
Just to give you some background, our mail slot is embedded in our front door. Every time the mail is delivered through the slot, Haley attacks the door, wresting the mail as it either pours on her head, or she paws at it as the mail falls to the floor. Barking, circling, prancing, announcing to everyone in a four block radius that the mail has arrived. Our new mailman has never seen Haley, he has only experienced her antics from behind the front door.
Fast forward to this morning, and as the mailman is ready to make a beeline to his truck, Haley starts to wag her tail. The mailman says "Oh! Is that the dog that makes all that noise?" I scoop her off the grooming table and as I keep her close to my chest, the mailman walks over to pet her on the top of her head.
Mailman, friend or foe? Today it's friend, tomorrow? I'm not so sure!
