You Gotta Love Those Shelties!

Just about 30 minutes ago, I discovered that our nephew's dog, Disco (choccie Lab/Sharpai mix) wasn't in the yard. However, Sparky and Max started barking like crazy when I came outside and they ran to the back to show me that Disco had climbed the fence and was in the neighbor's yard!

The Shelties stayed nearby and refused to budge until we rescued Disco. Smart, smart breed they are! Fearless and loyal! No wonder they are the best herding dogs ever!

Yeah Shelties Sparky and Max !!

Great job of watching Disco. Smart they are. They are a breed that never ceases to amaze me.

Aww..one of my cats is a door dasher, and when she gets out I can send Frosty out with the command "go get your cat" and he'll circle her and bring her in. They're so smart and watchful!

Sheltie hugs to Frosty !

See another amasing Sheltie. They never cease to amaze me, they are an awesome breed. That's why I love being owned by a Sheltie .

I have a friend with a 6 yr sheltie Pike who is the offical babysitter of her 3 yr malamute Kiva. They live on a few arces of land with trees surrounding their house, every once in while the Mal will take off into the woods and they'll ask Pike "where's Kiva" and Pike will look around in a panic like he can't believe she got away from him and he'll take off barking into the woods. A few minutes he'll be back chasing the Mal to the house. He also "tells" on her if she is doing something bad like chewing on something she shouldn't. If he barks there's a reason

I believe it, too! If I let Smudge loose near the neighbor's cat I'm sure he could round it up with no problem. He'd probably give the poor cat a complex. First barking at it, then nipping at it, and then running around it in circles.

I think I have a defective Sheltie. I cant' imagine either one of them doing that. Although, when Koji escapes, Miko kinda lets us know. Miko isn't the type to hang around when we're in the bathroom getting ready in the morning, but if Koji escaped out of the bedroom, Miko's in the bathroom. It's like, hey Miko, what're you doing in here.....then.....oh gawd is Koji out? I think Miko let's me know things.

Now, if Miko would only learn how to "go get Koji". But sadly, I think Miko would rather Koji run away. Sigh. Little irritating brothers.

I love these stories though. :)

We are finding the same thing here with Trapp & Bumper. If she is out & about, and he gets sight of her,he will just gently take his nose, and almost his head at times is hovering over her,to get her where he wants her to be.

He's very gentle about the process, unfortunately with her being blind,I'm sure she would like to know where she is being herded to go.
