Yeah, I got the sheltie stare this morning when Gavin wanted Breakfast early (silly boy).
I guess it means "I want something and you know what it is"

I forgot to mention that Indy and Bacca do a tag team....
Bacca mostly does the stare....he parks himself at my pillow or on the floor in front of pillow.
Indy is in charge of the "wake-up" which usually consists of walking all over me and licking my face or back of my neck. His job is get me awake enough to see Bacca's stare
Of course, I'm supposed to melt by this look and instantly cave and feed them....and yeah, I mostly do, but I DO make them wait 15 minutes at least before I dave entirely.

Well, thanks everyone! Shadow is a silent boy, only barking or whining on rare occasions, so the amusing thing about this situation is that he hasn't figured out when we are asleep in the dark and thus are unable to SEE him.
On the nights he's had accidents it hasn't been his fault, but ours; we gave him some little treat that day, or neglected to recall he hadn't been out before bed. I don't think it's necessary to crate him since he really "gets it" about keeping the floor clean. Fortunately we're all tile here, which makes cleanup a breeze.
I might consider the bell training, but from the reports of Shelties using the bell for all manner of alerts, I'll need to give this a little consideration ...!

My Dylan was bell trained. It was the one you hang on the door knob and you rang it everytime you took your dog out to go party. He was very well trained and didn't abuse the bell for any other reasons. Since we moved to our new house last year, we didn't hang the bell on the door knob any more. When he wants to go potty, he goes to the door and rings the imginary bell with his nose and looks back and me with expression on his face like "didn't your hear the bell ringing?".

LOL!!! Riley does the imaginary bell ring when we are other people's houses. He "rings" then stares at us. Of course he also will 'ghost ring' the bell at home, where he noses NEAR the bell, but not actually touch the bell, then expect us to take him out

When I take Bailey to my parents' house, she does the imaginary bell ring as well! And after she "rings" it, she turns around and gives me the sheltie stare. So cute!
