My furkids had their first shot at whole prey and they did fabulous! I laid one down on the ground and they all sniffed in. One grabbed onto it and the other decided they wanted it, they pulled, a foot came off! They looked at it for a second then both went for it realizing it was FOOD! It was all over with from there and they each got their own. Hadley was a little reluctant but did good eventually. No one made a mess or anything. It's funny I thought it would be so messy but it's cleaner than assorted body parts.

We are not there yet though... I just let kitty take care of those things naturally but nope, no dogs with whole prey

Ha! Next they get a whole chicken... not sure if they'll do the feathers or not. I added some pictures of them eating their whole bunny! They did it, fur and all. They started by pulling it and stretching it. The fur pushed back in the middle and then they both tugged more and finally tore a hole in the middle! They pulled out the intestines, set them aside, and went to town! Oh, first, my boy did eat the feet LOL they cleaned it out! It took them about four and a half hours. They're on round two now. My sheltie isn't too fond of the bunny.... she turn it inside out to eat it LOL
 
main problem for us is that I do not feed as feed... i.e. we train with whatever we feed so little food is actually given in dishes. I can not afford my dogs to eat their meals and train and stay slim enough for performance. At least not now when food is their main motivator. Although I do not know if I feel that comfortable going back to all that primal basics.... feels weird

Yes, that would certainly make things difficult if you were feeding them their food as training treats also!

I kind of feel like feeding whole prey helps me get the ratio better down and meets how they'd eat in the wild to the t. With that being said, if it hadn't saved me money would I have gotten furry creatures? Maybe not. They're loving it though and talk about mental stimulation! They've spent the whole day(and yesterday) tugging and tearing and chewing and shaking. With them having a neurological disorder, I cannot imagine a better way to keep the mind active! I'd definitely get them whole quail again as they seriously loved it, made no mess, and took right to it. They bunny was gross. They tore it in three pieces at the end and just carried it all around like a toy LOL
