I thought I’d share a recipe I created using leftover turkey meat. I made these awhile ago when I decided not to throw out the meat from the bones...granted it is kinda messy because you have to get your hands right in it to make sure your not adding any bones. Also, I don’t add any onions when I’m using my leftover meat for the dogs, just large chunks of celery (I just cut each rib in half so it’s easy to pick it out later). You could also use chicken thigh meat that you’ve cooked with celery as well. I usually have about 3 cups of meat and 4 ribs of celery.
Next time you cook a turkey (or chicken) cook up a batch of cookies for the dogs!
The consistency of the wet mixture is almost like that of a chicken salad...wet but not runny so easy to shape and dry!
3 cups of cooked turkey meat
4 ribs of cooked (very soft) celery
1 egg including shell
purée all together. Use a cookie scoop and place on parchment lined cookie sheet and then flatten (I use my fingers to flatten them out, they dry better flat).
Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes then reduce heat to 275 and continue drying for at least 1 hour or until dry. You can also finish the drying in a dehydrator.
my dogs go absolutely crazy over these cookies and very low fat!
