Noah has cancer of his bladder.

I am so very sorry to see this. I lost my Ozzie to the same disease nearly three years ago, at the age of just over 10. And my experience matches what the hospice doctor told you--you would never have known he was sick. I did chemo treatment, although I don't think it made any difference and...

    Sheltie males vs females?

I've had four girls and one male. All are affectionate, albeit in different ways and to differing degrees. The quality missing from the girls, I think, is that word "goofy" that has already been used. My boy, now gone, was loud and silly and very, very loving in a more exuberant way than the...

    Shelter Sheltie

Please keep us posted. I'm so glad you're helping him. My first thought was that the poor thing just retreated from the world because of whatever kind of conditions he was living in. Maybe you can help him return.

    Not your usual sheltie.

For what it's worth, I'll add that I got two Shelties last spring--one age 5, the other 7. Lived with their breeder all their lives; no traumas. And they've been totally fine...but it's only in the last month or so that I get the sense from them that they understand that they are *home,* and...

    Ideas for frozen Kong

I used Dannon low-fat plain yogurt mixed with some crushed biscuits. It's a big hit.

Looking for opinions before we adopt another sheltie....

My two cents--get the dog. The joy it will bring to you will immediately outweigh your concerns, I bet...and, as you said, should something dire happen (which is very unlikely) the dog will be safe. I lost the most glorious Sheltie in the world last November...still mourn him every single day...

    New member with sheltie mix

He is lovely! I don't know how to evaluate how much Sheltie he is, but to my eye, his expression and face are very very Sheltie like, with maybe a bit more thickness than the typical Sheltie. More hair would definitely up the overall resemblance. But he is very beautiful the way he is.

    What's happened to us?

What gorgeous pictures! There is something about Shelties that says "more." I wanted one...quickly got a second...and then a little less quickly, a third. Three dogs? Too many. I must be crazy. The second one passed away a couple of months ago, and two doesn't seem nearly enough. There will be...

I had to put down my first dog this christmas. Kidney failure. He wasn't even 5 yet.

Please stop beating yourself up. You did everything you could, and everything you knew how to do at the time. I am sure you gave him a good and happy life, and I have no doubt he knows that you did the very best for him. I lost my ten-year-old boy to a tumor blocking his urethra five weeks ago...

    Neutered dog prostate issues

Yes, yes, and yes. He was also having trouble defecating. He has been diagnosed with TCC of the prostate. It has not spread anywhere, and an anti-inflammatory alleviated his symptoms in two days. I am told that this drug gives dogs an average lifespan of six months. A short, mild course of chemo...

Debarking: Health Issues, Side Effects for Dog already been Debarked

My three show retirees are de-barked. They all express themselves completely and often and happily. One is still quite loud, one sounds like a hamster, and one sounds dramatically raspy. Suits their personalities, actually. I'm quite sure they haven't been traumatized by it.

Thank you both--your kindness is much appreciated.

    Neutered dog prostate issues

I know that this general topic has been covered frequently in these forums, but I wonder if anyone has anything to share about a neutered male with a prostate enlargement/mass? My nearly ten-year-old boy was diagnosed with this on Monday (two weeks after an "all clear" checkup) and the vet...

    Time for Serious Thought

I have three--two females, ages 12 and 10, and a male, 10. The younger girl arrived about three years after the first two. They regard her as "the pesky little sister." And she is. She's a pushy, hyper, pain in the neck. But they also travel together in the yard a tiny herd and sleep cuddled...

    I'm in HEAVEN!

How beautiful they all are! I only have three. Now I'm jealous.
