Pyoderma- to shave or not to shave?

For dogs with recurrent skin infections, is it better to clip the hair short? I'm very hesitant to clip Alphies hair. I have also read antibiotic therapy should be continued a week after recovery, which is about 3,4 weeks. Sounds like a long time to be on pills! Does anyone have experience...

    Purestpets allergy relief shampoo?

Alphie is allergic to something and spends all summer with his tummy full of scabs from bacterial/ fungal infections because of it. I'm wondering if This shampoo will help. Has anyone tried it? I tried cooking for him, but it seems the only way that helps is if he gets a cold bath every...

    Low Energy Shelties

Yup! Ajax is the king of laziness. he is completely satisfied to have breakfast, pee and poop and go back to bed until dinner time. I even suspected he has hypothyroidism for a while, but he has no fur loss. hes been this way all his life, he MIGHT play with alfie for 5mins a day if he feels...

    Sable merle Sheltie growing up

Yup, so the big patches that are visible as a pup will stay visible as adults. But the little spots will be covered up by the long guard hair and disappear.

    Sable merle Sheltie growing up

So I finally had time to put together some pictures of alphies colour change as he grew up. Here is him at 2 months, note the patches already visible, they stay quite visible even now.: http://flic.kr/p/ok8hZk 4-7month: the ugly duckling phase http://flic.kr/p/o1SS2f 8-11 months: the back...

    Soft Bite Floppy Discs

I managed to get one last year! Its one of Alphies fav disc toys. The other one is made by ruffwear, also soft but flies better. I'd hoard another one but they are hard to find here. We use the regular one :) Alphies a big boy!

    Has anyone tried these toys?

Yup! Id recommend the minis, regular size is huge for a sheltie. And much too heavy. The edges break after a while, but overall its pretty long lasting. My boys dont chew, yet the edges will start having cracks after a while. I started with one, the when they learn to play it i connect them...

Can a sable and tri produce sable merles?

I think sable merles change the most out of all the colours! it's amazing. Let me open another post on alfies transformation lol the old links dont work anymore, sorry guys! EDIT: forgot to say, I now have the feeling that alfies dad might not be the tri I thought it was on his pedigree...

Like everyone else said I think it's best to meet this dog first to see if you will all be happy. Maybe a trial period? Let us know how it goes! I know of a very laid back BC for adoption in Texas, will you be interested? Edit: http://capturetheangels.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/mrbo/ I found the...

Something interesting I heard from a vet student today

Interesting! I've never given tail wagging much thought before, what about ones that don't really wag at all? Alfie only wags when I come home. Or at my chinchilla lol and it's never over his back. Doesn't wag for food or toys etc. I don't think he has a preferred side, but he is reactive to...
