11th Annual World of Pets Expo!

We are planning on being there. We have gone a couple times and loved it. So many cool things.(take lots of money lol) I think we are planning on going on Saturday. Maybe we will see some of you there.

First- the place is a cesspool of germs

Second- Imagine every out of control large breed dog in the State of Maryland, all in one building at the same time. It's loud, chaotic, and too much for a baby puppy.

I stay firmly affixed on the "exhibitor" side of the agility trial, unless I'm running for food. I don't like crowds, and I don't like out of control, fat dogs on ill-fitted prong collars. It's better for everyone that I just simply stay away. :smile2: The trial should be great though, if the weather holds.
 
I have taken a puppy there a few years back. Held her the whole time and didnt let her down. She did fine, but we were there early before it really got crowded. I have never seen any out of control dogs since I have been going, not saying there hasnt been some there. I think most of the people that bring their dogs there, have them pretty under control. But I haven't made it every year so I have no idea what happens every year. When I said we were going I meant me and my husband, but we are seriously thinking about taking her. As I said, we go early and leave early.

I have to say I agree with Rachael. There are definitely some large out of control dogs there. I do walk around the expo though, but I don't take Trax out with me most of the time.

Two years ago I had a lady walk up to me and here's how the conversation went:

Weird Lady - You have a sheltie!
Me - Uh yes I do
Weird Lady - Is it a boy or a girl?
Me - It's a boy
Weird Lady - Oh my gosh I have a girl! Do you want to get them together to have puppies?!?!?!?
Me - Uh No lady. My dog is fixed as he should be and I wouldn't breed my dog. He's no where near what a Sheltie should be built like and there are enough unwanted dogs out there...

And then I ran away as fast as possible before I really went off on her :mad:

I do agree with you about the woman. A lot of people want to breed and have dogs, that should never even own a dog. Its been a couple years since I have been to the Expo, so possibly there are rowdy dogs now. I guess I will find out this year at the Expo. lol And you dont take Trax( I love that name) often.:smile2: Will you be going this year? When we go we will be going as soon as they open up because it gets so crowded later in the day that you can hardly move. Maybe we should wear big signs on our shirts that say "Sheltie Nation" lol It would be so cool to have t shirts that say that.

Oh no, he's there. Rachael and I both compete in the agility trial that goes on, but we tend to leave our dogs in their crates if we go out into the expo area because of the craziness. It was either last year or the year before that I saw a kid get bit in the face by someone else's dog that they were watching closely enough.

As it gets closer, I'll let you know what I'll be wearing and maybe we can plan a time to meet up. Because we don't have a set time for when we will be running our dogs, maybe I'll give you my cell phone number and we'll plan it on the fly that day. It's a crazy weekend for those of us that are showing. We also work at the show too. I'll send you a PM later with my info :)
 
Yes that would be great. I would love to see your dog compete. Do you have and idea what time you will be doing that? Somewhere online I have seen dog shows that are just for Shelties I assume. Do you go to that? There were a couple near by in Feb. I would love to go and see all the Shelties.

It's ALL day long. We start around 8am and finish at like 5pm. There's no assigned time or anything, we just go by a running order that we get the day of the show. That's why I said we'll just have to coordinate on that day because our runs could happen any time depending on the amount of dogs and the order that they go in.

The Sheltie Club has their Sheltie Agility Specialty in September each year in Westminster, MD and we also have an all breed agility show in Frederick at the end of April. They also do obedience and rally and all that stuff. I'm only involved in agility though so that's all I know. The site hasn't been updated for this year's events yet but when it does, it'll be at www.sscgb.org

Rachael is on the board for SSCGB so she'd know a lot more about the activities :biggrin2:
