I was thinking....it seems that most dogs seem to jump well at about 2" higher than their height. It's clean, nice arcs, etc. Well, that's what I've noticed when we played with the heights during training. I started jumping Koji at 18-20 because his jumps were nicer, cleaner, and he collected when needed. Versus 16".
Another thought I've always had...is why in USDAA is the height difference 6" btwn 16 and 22. Versus all the other heights that have only a 4" difference. I never understood that either. Do dogs in the 16-22" height range jump differently or better?
And lastly...a vent. I'm still surprised AKC Rally doesn't have two jump options like agility. If i wanted to do Rally Advanced with Miko, my 13 y.o., he'd have to jump 12". That's high for an old pup like him. I'm sure I could get away with jumping 8", but if I was called on it, I'd have to jump 12". Crazy. Well, for Miko.
BTW, I never thought about a height guarantee. Interesting. I guess if I knew I was going to do some major competing, I'd want that too. Those 12" shelties are fast!
