2 injuries, what a night!

Ann, does your vet automatically do a 30 day round of Doxy every 6 months for Barkley since he has tested positive for Lyme? Faelee tested mild positive last year and our vet discussed the possible approaches...either not treating for mild cases or treating even in mild cases. Apparently there has been recent data which is pointing to a few breeds who tend to go into early kidney failure if they are positive for Lyme and not treated...and shelties were one of the breeds. I would be really interested to know if your vet has mentioned this and his take on it.

This is very interesting and the first I've heard of it. Barkley got Lyme the first time when he was 6 months old, and has had it ever summer since except for last year. We treat with 30 days of doxy when he has flare-ups but I've never heard of treating profilacticly. We usually don't retest when he has flare-ups; we just treat him when I see symptoms. This time, though, the symptoms were much more subtle than usual, so we ran a Snap test. I'll be discussing this with him. I'd love to know if there's any material I could share with him, if you know where this type of treatment was discussed. Thanks, Trini!

The hijacking was actually my fault...my apologies. Hopefully there aren't any more injuries to add!!!!!!!! But maybe an update on how all the injured patients are doing today?

No problem on the hijack I don't mind.

Sky's ear is looking pretty good it is healing fast like the vet said it would, its a nice clean cut. I guess if you want to consider it a positive, his one ear is now tipped like a proper shelties ear should be

Belle is doing better, she is starting to put weight on her leg, although I have noticed that after she has a bowel movement, she holds it up again for a little bit. I am guessing its from the position she has to get in to go.
Of course the downside of her feeling better is she is wanting to do more so I really have to watch her when I let her out, leash only for her!
