Thanks! He has gotten 1st in obedience almost every year now he has been in it(7 years)
Our show is only 1 day technechally, we do obediene, and showmanship on Monday. We do have a party/ agility on Thursday, but that is just for fun.
We are thinking about making agility and maybe rally part of the show next year. The only problem we have is the fair board is not very friendly toward our dog program. We are only allowed in 1 barn with the dogs and it is not that big, so our agility equipment gets set up in 3 strait lines for the kids to use.
Oh...I know what you mean about the fair board and the dog shows.
We finally, after 25 years of my mom being the leader, have a tent. We actually got a pretty big tent. The problem with that is we have to have events to fill the tent every hour that the fair is open. We share the tent with the seeing eye dog club. It is great in regards to distractions, as we are not asking the dogs to work amongst the goats/sheep like we used to do.
This year, they are giving us a bigger tent because our dog events actually attract many more visitors than any of the other shows (horse/cow/goat/pig/etc.). People look for the shows.
It is a LOT of work to organize, but some of the things we have are:
Rally Obedience
Club Obedience
Invitation (for the state) Obedience
Agility Games
Agility Show
Team Obedience
4-H Dog Game day that includes lots of fun games for the dogs.
Then, we have many different demonstrations that fill up the time. Some of the demonstrations are:
Police K-9's
Flyball demonstration
Lure Tracking
Nosework
Therapy/Service Dog Demos
Herding
OTCH Obedience Dog Demo
Disco Dog Demo
Special Needs Dog Agility Demo
Search and Rescue Demo
Then, the seeing on puts on a lot of meet and greets and simple shows for the seeing eye.
It took a ton of work to put all this together, but we were able to originally present these ideas (this will be our third year with a tent) to the Fair Board to justify getting us a tent. It has been a HUGE HUGE success.
Let me know if you need any help with getting write-ups for the fair boards or anything. The hardest thing was getting through to them that we could actually fill the time, and that our events would be a hit. We had success!
