A happier day!

I too feel your pain. I lost my Darcy nearly 3 months ago and have a new sheltie baby coming next week. While I'm very excited to get this new little girl, I still have moments when seeing a photo, etc., of Darcy starts the tears flowing. Sometimes mixed with guilt at feeling like I'm replacing her and at other times, thinking of how she would have loved this new little one.

Darcy will be forever in my heart. She is the first dog I had owned in about 30 years and will always be special.

Now, I just have to try and think of a name for the new puppy. Went to visit her last week for the first time and thought a name would come to me....but not yet. Darcy was named for Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice and it was just perfect. I know the right name will come....

will throw out a couple names- Lizzie, Janie, Kitty, etc:winkgrin:

Sometimes I'm afraid people will think: oh well, Trace died so they went out & got another Sheltie, no big deal. If anyone thinks that they have no idea just what a big deal this is.

I was totally devastated when we lost Trace. He was only 4 1/2 so it was such a shock. I felt numb for so long. It wasn't long before I started thinking about how it just felt wrong to have just one dog in the house. Once we decided to get a new puppy the tears were still there for Trace, but my mind/heart also had to make room for thoughts of the new puppy.

The new little boy is not a replacement - more of a distraction.

I contacted my breeder the day Everett left for the bridge, and had a puppy 3 days later. I would be a mess if not for the new guy-- Congrats!! (At times, Im still a mess thinking of The Everett)

I have a gorgeous llama named Here Kitty Kitty. Yes, I go and call "Here Kitty Kitty" and this giant beast trots up. My other llama is China. We had a third til we had a breeder incident and sent her to another hidden location to evade politics. Her name was Angel.

Try standing out calling: "Kitty, China, Angel -- time to come up for the night". People thought I was calling for hookers.

I think Kitty for a dog is delightful.

PS -- Tessa. I love the name Tessa. Maybe some day I will have a little Tessa.

when I lost my first dog (as an adult), the house was so empty, I started looking for a new dog within the first week. one of the techs at the vet told me that everyone has a different reaction and different time when they are ready for a new dog. I've started looking within a week of losing each dog. even when I was up to three dogs and still had two, I still started looking within that first week. took 5 months to actually bring home the new pup but I was looking the whole time and waiting on litters and breeder decisions etc.....
the distraction is key and it's hard to be sad when you are laughing at puppy antics:pop
