I was at the pet store the other day and found out that Acana has come out with a line of limited ingredient foods. They are single protein and single grain foods--so they are NOT grain free.

The flavors (and protein levels) are listed below:

Lamb & Apple: 25%
Duck & Pear: 25%
Chicken & Potato: 28%

You can read more here: http://www.championpetfoods.com/acana/products.php

Cool! I love Champion Pet Foods and that they provide such a wide variety of healthy foods for our pets, both with and without high quality grains.

Its nice that they're offering foods now with limited ingredients.

My DS decided we needed to lower the protein -- so we ordered the Chicken/Potato one. I'll let you know how it goes. :uhoh:

As you can tell, I'm a bit worried about adding regular grain, but it is oats, and not corn, so I caved. And with Bitsy Boodle's liver enzymes, I can see her concern.

Acana- Limited Ingredients- feedback

Okay so crazy me has been to every petfood store where I live several times this week. Just bought a car safety harness in my search for adult food for Bailey.

Returned the bag of Wellness Simple - Salmon which I thought was one of the few with no chicken & not to high protein ( 25%) when I discovered Acana's new products. Due to my cat's chicken allergy want to feed Bailey chicken free food which is not easy because so many have chicken, chicken cartlidges or something chicken in it.

Today Global Pet Foods told me about the Canadian manufacturer Acana's new Limited Ingredient foods. They gave me free samples of the duck, lamb & pork. I like that fact that it is made here in Canada & the protein for all flavours is 27% ( not too high) AND NO chicken :)

Any reviews or feedack on anyone who may have tried this limited ingredients Acana?

Just want to confirm that the guaranteed analysis is the protein (27%) that you use? Not the 31% protein mentioned from a dogfood rating webisite?

Hmm. Looks like you've listed kibbles from two different Acana lines, Ashley! The Chicken and Potato is from the Acana Classics line, and that line is definitely NOT grain-free (or limited ingredient).

The Acana Singles flavors are Duck and Bartlett Pear, Lamb and Okanagan Apple, and Pork and Butternut Squash, and according to the Champion website, each of them boasts "no grain, potato or tapioca" (see attached image).

I was really confused when I saw these Acana Singles listed as "new" on their website the other day, because I distinctly remember walking past the pink "Lamb and Okanagan Apple" kibble bags on my way to pick up Acana Pacifica for the last few years... so I assume that Acana has simply reformulated some of their old "Classics" flavors to make up this new "Singles" line.

Here's a run-down of the ingredients for the Acana Singles Pork and Butternut Squash:

"Deboned pork*, pork meal, green lentils, red lentils, pork liver*, butternut squash*, pork fat, green peas, yellow peas, canola oil, algae, garbanzo beans, pumpkin*, carrots*, pork kidney*, freeze-dried pork liver, kelp, chicory root, ginger root, peppermint leaf, lemon balm, mixed tocopherols (preservative), dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product.
*DELIVERED FRESH
Supplements: Only 1.

The ultimate food mimics the one Mother Nature intended your dog to eat.

ACANA Pork & Butternut Squash is loaded with a full 50% of pork, including meat, liver and cartilage —all of which deliver nutrients naturally, dramatically reducing the need for synthetic ingredients in ACANA foods.

That’s why Zinc Proteinate is the only supplement in ACANA Pork & Butternut Squash."

The other two "Singles" foods are similar, containing lentils/garbanzo beans/peas alongside the single-animal meat ingredients.

I just bought Lerwick a bag of the Pork and Butternut Squash the other day, and he LOVES it. It's nice to have a few other options for him, since he can't handle any poultry/fowl ingredients. Now I'm up to 4 Acana flavors I can feed him, between the "Singles" and "Regionals" lines. Woohoo!

My question is:

Is the protein in the lamb and apple 27% per the guaranteed analysis? Is that the protein % you use?
