Ackerman, Sable, Male - Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I just signed up too. I noticed that when I type my zip and choose dogs within 300 miles no dogs in the state of Ohio come up. I live in western pa. I also tried 400 and 500 miles and still no Ohio. The rescue is located if I put in the exact name.

What's your zip code? I tried 17046... Oooh the dog you're looking for must be listed as a mixed breed, so you have to check the "Show Mixed Breeds" checkbox.

Roughly 30 dogs in Ohio show up in the advanced search, with show mixed checked and hide if no-kill unchecked. (I sorted by location, which sorts by state then city.)

Let me know if you still can't find it. If it's in PetFinder, it should be here too.

Just wanted to say great job on the site (I finally signed up)!!

Can I make one suggestion? Can you make the bg lighter on the list of dogs. It's really hard to read white on black. Or light on dark. I can't read the list very long and I want to.

Well Cheryl, I hope you're at least somewhat high-tech.

I added the ability for users to set those colors in all listings, under the User Profile -> Personal Info section there are 3 new fields:

Listing Foreground Color
Listing Background Color
Other Listing CSS

Valid values for the colors follow cascading style sheet (CSS) rules. This web page has a list of color names that are recognized: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa358802.aspx.

The next two paragraphs get pretty complex, so if it will blow you out of the water, skip over it, ok?

If the first character of a color value is # it expects 6 hexadecimal characters (0-9, A-F) to follow; they define the color numerically, the first 2 characters represent the red component, the second 2 represent green, the third 2, blue (it's an RGB value.) The higher the number, the lighter the color will be, so #FFFFFF is white and #000000 is black. Any value with all 3 pairs the same will be a shade of gray, like #A9A9A9 or #808080.

The "Other Listing CSS" field offers ultimate power, if you know how to use it, you can set font-size, font-face, and most any other of the hundreds of style attributes defined by CSS. Here's an exhaustive description: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh869403(v=vs.85). For example, if you enter "font-size: xx-small;" (without the quotes) the letters will be what we programmers call "very very small."

If you enter something invalid it will be ignored; if your colors are invalid you'll end up with grayish (#686868) on a sort-of pale yellow (#FFFFCC) that's used over most of the pages.

If all of the above was just way too much, let me know what you'd like to see, and I'll suggest some values.

To sum it all up, in the immortal words of Metallica, careful what you wish, you just might get it.
