ADD and utility don't mix

:gaahyou just described Six...sigh...you can literally watch his attention span come and go...I wish I could get him to focus a bit more on tasks...He really is a sweet dog but my god dog focus for more than .01sec and the sad thing his hes really smart..maybe that the problem the really smart ones are always trying to be a step ahead of us making their minds constantly switch gears...

Let me know if you figure out a way to get the ADD dogs to focus

And there is why I've never done obedience with Lexi

I totally know how you feel. Lexi loses patience with me just teaching tricks. I can almost hear her shouting "IS THIS IT? IS THIS IT? DO I GET A COOKIE NOW? WAS I A GOOD GIRL?!" as she throws her body around and guesses what I'm asking.

She's been known to throw herself into a down when I ask for a sit (clearly her "best" command) because she's too excited to focus.

Good luck--you are a great trainer and Diva is very smart, so you'll get there. Just might take a bit of patience on both of your parts.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!! You have Ellie !!!

I think she Sounds very normal for a new utility dog. I had all those issues when we started showing for his utility title. it is so fun and the utility exercises are a blast! Keep reminding her of the pieces and she will smooth herself out to a nicely choreographed and smooth utility pro! She's just helping you to pay your dues and keep your feet on the ground. I think... I don't have much experience. Two dogs trained for utility only one finishing the title... And one up and comer who iphas stopped all the fun till he learns to sit up nice and straight....blasted rock back sit! Grrr!

You are probably right.:smile2:I have just been spoiled by Justice and Ember.

Justice is mister generalization and that rare dog that sees the big picture. He was my first utility dog and was trained completely in 2 months start to finish!

Ember is super smart and doesn't like to be wrong so she pays really close attention. Trained articles in 1 week. UKC UD in 4 tries, AKC UD in 5 tries and UDX in 14 tries.

I guess I finally have a normal dog. Diva loves to work and is super smart but she tries my patience because she is wild!:gaah

My friends laugh their fannies off when I hit a wall with Bobby or Justus, they always say "get a real dog" :D

I chide them too, that if they had a sheltie they wouldn't need to train. ;)

Your girl is going to be awesome, she's just going to make you learn patience. Something we sort of lose sight of when working with these amazing dogs.

Got youtube?
