I have a young, 10 week old girl who I would love to get involved in herding. Because our teacher is over two and a half hours away, I can't go very often. How often can I get away with going without wasting time?
I don't know the answer to your "intervals" question, but I do remember that there was a post not too long ago with two 8-12 week old shelties running with some sheep. So it seems that you can introduce them rather early.
our herding trainer- that we've been to once- though Cranpup was there without me so he's been twice- says early is good. get them used to sheep early. just haven't had time to get over there since June.
Thanks so much! Now that the weather seems to be on our side, we will schedule a time.
But as far as intervals of training goes: for instance, most people compete in Obedience train about twice or three times a week. Agility is about the same. Would Herding be the same or would once a month suffice?
I emailed a farm already and they said we can start him as soon as possible.
He will only be going once or twice a month though as the farm is an hour away but it is near my cousins house so next summer we might start going every weekend.
