Agility and Spinning

When Bella gets over excited or confused in Agility she spins and spins. Any suggestions on helping us get over this would be greatly appreciated.

Can you teach her a conflicting command (meaning one that doesn't allow her to spin)?

I have a friend whose dog does this and she taught a drop--so when the dog is confused or even if she is confused and needs to get her bearings her dog drops. I would just say that you want to make that command really rewarding--sometimes spinning can be a sign of stress.

good luck, and let me know if you figure something out. My male who is now 14 used to just spin and spin and spin. Needless to say, we refused a lot. He then turned into a stay at home dog. He even bit Bud Houston (maker of tea cup agility) one time because Bud was trying to show me how to correct it... it didn't go well. And Bud filled up his "no" jar very quickly. oh the good old days.

Thanks everyone
I am really working on early cues and forward momentum.
The drop on command works in real life but she gets so excited in Agility. I really need to work on rewarding the down on the field in practice.

Videotaping your practice is one of the best investments you can make. Run your clip in slow mo and see how soon your dog needs info.

If your dog continually does it, I would use sit if you have a solid sit. Sometimes I just need to calm Ruutu down while running Agility. Of course, he's still in puppy mode. But, I just make him sit for a minute then we continue. I sometimes have to do this at my house too.
