Agility GEAR?

...

and as far as martigale collars go, i have one and didnt like it only because lace never tries to back out of her collar, so there was no real use for it. I also hate not havin a buckle and i NEED to have a rolled collar so thats why the martingales dont work for me. I think im just gonna look for a rolled/rounded, leash/collar! And the one i posted, i could get for 10$ and there is nothing else like it around where i am. I know one person said this was a good pick but knowing my issue with martingales now, do you all think the ruffwear one would be best? And once i find out why the tuggin leashes are so big, can you get one with a rolled/rounded material with a none martingale?

When you trial in agility, your dog MUST be on a collar and leash going into the ring and out of the ring. This is what a slip lead is for, as there is no time really to be playing with a buckle. You asked for recommendations for Agility, not for everyday use. If you need one that is not a martingale, then it will have to be a slip/lead that is a choker. I prefer not to use the choker. But you really can't have a buckle collar going into the agility ring.

Why don't you Youtube some agility videos and you will see what I am talking about.

noo i think you got me wrong... I mean like for everyday use i need a collar with a buckle BUT i also dont need a martigale all in one leash because she dosnt back out of her collars. Which is why i mentioned in my first post i wanted to buy that "slip lead". I ok with the choker and would not use anything buckle in the ring, just for everyday use.

Hope that clears the misunderstanding

As far as the tugging toys/leashes go... im not to sure if i understand the huge use for them? I have seen the dogs tugg after the run and before the run so is this the only use for it? could someone explain for me?

Tugging increases drive, which is highly desirable for agility dogs. It's what makes them go, and makes them go fast. It gets them excited, but the best part about tugging is it can also be used to rev up a dog, yet keep them under control (I use tugging, then "give", then sit, then tugging, etc...)

It's also nice if your dog likes tug toys because it's another way to reward him/her when training. It's much harder to use treats because they aren't as flexible (can't throw them to keep your dog moving, etc...)

The convenience of a leash/tug just makes it one less thing to have to carry around.

I think everyone gave you great suggestions. Trust me on this one, buy everything slowly. I think in that first year, heck, first month of trialling, I spent a LOT of money on everything. The one thing I will say....do not use a harness of any sort for the class. I've only had harnesses, so in class, I just used a slip-lead (that I use at home for potty trips). Dogs can't really jump comfortably in a harness. But, it sounds like you have collars anyways, but I'm writing it for anyone who may do a search.

BTW, I think I have 4 leads for Koji now (for agility alone). Although I love the martingale one, it's also the one that gets most tangled in his hair and distracts him as I'm trying to pull it off him in the ring. Sigh. I use my rolled slip-lead for a tug toy and lead. I just wish he'd stop trying to choke himself.

In addition to these reasons, you also can't take treats into a ring, so if you use the leash, your dog gets an instant reward at the end of a run. So you can use it in the ring, instead of just outside of the ring (only plates where treats would be allowed). The dogs get all worked up, and they get rewarded. It makes agility fun fun fun.

Well, I must be some kind of rebel then because I often use a buckle collar and more than half the trials I go to (USDAA) it isn't required that the dog be on the collar/leash in and out of the ring!

I often see buckle collars on smaller dogs and their owners don't seem to have issues fumbling around either. Now my larger dog...I use a harness, but the slip collar isn't really a must for agility, but rather something certain people prefer.
