Agility Wins

Definitely our first Q. When we started agility I didn't have any grand plans of being good at it--or Qing at all. We just ran the course to have fun. But, in our second trial we were in Starters Jumpers and Bentley ran it perfectly! I was so happy afterwards that I cried (silly, I know!) because I was so proud of him!

I agree - the first Q is a fantastic feeling! Not that we have been running long to have too many memorable moments. I had a surprise win (our one and only first) a while ago. We had a pretty crappy day and NQed every event so I went home early. Then I discovered everyone had a crappy day and our one fault in agility actually beat everyone elses DQs! It was a nice surprise, should have stuck around after all and gotten our ribbon. Still it will be nice if one day we get first place and qualify. When Mr D gets back running courses it will be just a win for us if he qualifies - he gets so excited running a course that every run is memorable!:biggrin2:

Sorry - I shouldnt use abbreviations, I only recently learnt all them myself!

DQ - means disqualified - I usually DQ because I accumulated 3 faults or the dog took the equipment in the wrong order. Once I got DQed for Tully piddling in the agility ring!
NQ - that's when you have made a fault - like missed a piece of equipment.
Q - means you did all the equipment and within the allocated time-frame - a clean run. A Q gives you a point towards agility titles.

I agree, that first Q is a fantastic feeling and very difficult to beat. However, in the short time I've been running, the most memorable run/win to date has to be my recent Jackpot run in CPE that completed Level 1 for me.

We had a HORRIBLE Saturday with lots of 'training runs'. I really wasn't expecting much from Edan on the Sunday. We ONLY needed a Q in Jackpot to finish Level 1. We'd been working on distance work for 6 months in an attempt to get that Q. It was the only Q I really wanted over the enter weekend.

To add to the stress, I missing most of the course walk through because I was on the phone with my DH, outside, and didn't hear them call for the start of the walk. :(

Well, between the judge's use of a non-standard Jackpot course and having a rough idea of what I wanted to do from course maps, I took Edan and off we went.

We started with the Jackpot - a straight line "parallel" run with him about 12 foot too my right - containing a tire, tunnel and two bar jumps; something that should have been easy for him. I positioned him far enough back from the tire, and the gamble line, so I'd have a running start and the ability to 'push' him toward the tire before getting to the line.

Not only did we Q but we Qed with enough points to Q if we were running levels 2 or 3 instead of Level 1. :eek2: It was a GREAT run! I posted the video for it about 3 weeks ago. Look for the Sheltie TV, Agility Edition - Washingtonville. It was named something like that.

Shadow and I have been competing for 6 years and I have to agree the first Q is always the best but I think the one that stands out in my mond has to be when he was around 3 yrs and it was the Thanksgiving Cluster(largest AKC Agility trial in the country) and it was the JWW class and there were 80 dogs in the class and Shadow won it.At the time there was a sheltie named Remy who was dominating the 16 inch class so to win over him was nice.

I just watched Edan's videos. You make it look so easy! Edan looked so sweet going through the course. Thank you for sharing and congratulations!
