Agility

I saw the cutest little sheltie at the Thanksgiving Cluster and she was 2 years old and doing agility. She is a pocket size sheltie. My cat is bigger than she.I have never seen one that small. She was blue merle and I think the owner said she was 10 7/8 inches tall. I wanted to take her home.

Wow, that is small. I have never heard of a 'pocket sheltie' before, but I bet, she did well given her small size!

I think there are a handful of shelties out there who are so small they wind up in the 8" division. I can think of a sable and a blue here who compete in 8".
There's actually a puppy out there who I bred that may stay in the 8" division. I hear from her owner often, and they plan to do agility down the road. She just hasn't decided to grow. Right now, she's 5.5 months old, and barely 9", and has been that height for quite some time. I think she'll grow a little more still, but may not pass 11".

Those are some tiny Shelties! (Said the woman with an over-size blue merle)

Even though I have a slight preference for Shelties either at the top of size scale or slightly over, I have to remind myself the original toonies were usually 10"-11", so I guess that current-day small Shelties are the result of the genetic lottery reaching back to the foundations. Even so, I wonder if a very spare, subsistence diet didn't also contribute to the small size of the earliest Shelties.

What a little Sheltie! There's a woman who has two Shelties whom I often see at Rally trials, and one of hers is about that size. Very tiny! :smile2:

Awwww. Although I prefer Sheltie's on the top end of the scale, they are just so darn adorable when they're that small.

I ran into a guy at my daycare who had a small Sheltie like that. Koji is pushing 18" and this other Sheltie could basically walk under him. They were both beyond the ends of the spectrum.

I love watching small Shelties do agility. They bounce. :)

I call Bailey my little pocket sheltie. She's not that small, but much smaller than my first sheltie. 12 1/2 inches right now. I'm considering signing her up for agility classes. She's a fast little one and loves to jump.
