Hey Y'all. Still new to the sheltie world, so i have a question. I was wondering if anyone has home air purifiers. Any you would recomend to help pull the dog hair out of the air? Would buy somthing smaller like for a bedroom. Any recomendations would be great. Thanks ahead of time!

Hi Tommy,

Do you have allergies? or is just to keep the furry tumbleweeds under control? We have forced air heating and central air and have an electrostatic filter attached. While no one has pet dander allergies, we also don't have a dust issue. As for the shedding with Shelties, you get used to it after a while. :smile2:

We have 3 Shelties and 2 air purifiers -- 1 purifier upstairs, and 1 downstairs. The ones we bought (in a twin-pack at BJs, perfect!) have removable filters, so I just vacuum the filters weekly. Amazing how much they suck up. Ours also have UV lights, which help kill dust mites. And they blow cool air as they blow, so I generally have a Sheltie camped out in front of both purifiers at any given time. LOL!!

I do have allergies, but its not to bad. We have been looking into buying some type of purifier since we have alot of dust to begin with. So if i found one that helped suck up those tufts of fur might be like an added bonus on it .

I didnt even think to find some with UV. That might be really helpfull for me, not just suck it up into a fiter, but actually kill any dust mites. What brand are they? I would love to look into those!

We have dogs and parrots so we have to have air purifiers, especially in my bedroom. I have a BlueAir Air Purifier and although they aren't cheap, it made all the difference in my room with air quality. And you can get them online through Bed, Bath and Beyond and use one of their 20% off coupons!

We have a Holmes. It is insanely noisy. I don't recommend it. It's like sitting next to a 70's huge box fan. It works, and we use it when we aren't in the house. But I have to turn it off as soon as I get home because it just echoes.

Thanks for all the replies! I happened to find one on woot.com. (they are an insane daily deal webstore) I was able to get a honeywell HHT-149 for 99 bucks. Since it is just for my bedroom i will give it a go and post my results and feedback on it for anyone who might be looking for one in the future.

Well I've had the purifier for about a month now. I used the ionizer for a few days to clear up the dog smell. I run it during the day when I am at work and turn the ionizer off at night. The UV light is a good touch but I cant say if it has done anything for me. Over all it does seem to suck up a good handful of hair. The filters can be vacuumed which makes things easy and saves money.

My only complaint on it....

There is a distinct line between "medium" and high. There isn't much of an adjustment from low to "75%" But then it kicks on really high after that setting. It can be really noisy which doesn't both me since I need white noise to sleep anyway. It may however bother a lot of people that need silence. But you can have it on a low setting and it seems almost silent.

A little late to the thread but just add my 2 cents :) I have a sharp plasmacluster in my bed room. I have 2 cats that reside pretty much 95% of their day in there and a dog at night...I have horrible allergies and that air purifier has worked wonderfully...if im a little slacking in the cleaning and I can tell because i'll wake up stuffy..ive had it since 2000 and its worked every night....and its not obnoxious loud either..although I too need noise to sleep :wink2: so maybe im not that best one to judge on sound level!
